The Friendship and Peace Society was established in 1996 in Hebron, Palestine, to work on reconciliation between Muslims, Jews and Christians. Its focus was on human rights and on dialogue between Muslims and Jews, including university students, peace settlers and local Muslims. When the Palestinian Authority took over most of Hebron, it made the Friendship and Peace Society a not-for-profit Palestinian organization, and authorized it to bring together Muslims, Jews and Christians any place in Palestine for friendship, peace and an end of oppression. We had some very successful dialogues. We also began the embroidery project to help poor village women feed and educate their children. When the director returned to the U.S., the Friendship and Peace Society also became a Florida 501 (c) 3 non profit corporation, whose goal is to reconcile longstanding national, ethnic or religious conflicts. The embroidery project is part of that peacemaking goal. We hope therefore that you will look at the beautiful work done by poor village women who are the sole support of their families and we also hope that you will help them care for their children.
